Problem Collection for GermanyHistory and SystemMathematical competitions used to be organized separately in the two Germanies prior to their unification in 1989. The main competition in East Germany was what is today called German National MO, established in 1962, while the main competition in West Germany was the so-called Federal Competition (Bundeswettbewerb Mathematik, formerly also known as West German MO), established in 1970. This fact lead to two separate competitions that are nowadays held in Germany, as both competitions were continued after 1989. The National MO is held in four rounds, the final one consisting of 6 problems in two days, divided into grades. The Federal Competition is held in three rounds, where the first two consist of four take-home problems each, while the third round is a kind of colloquium.Germany at International CompetitionsGermany participates at the IMO since 1991, whereas East Germany and West Germany had participated since 1959 and 1977, respectively.
